In the Middle Ages, Moldova was considered a gateway to Europe, its only accessible trade route between the Asian and the European countries, called the "Moldovian Way". At the intersections of this commercial route appeared Hincesti, set in a huge natural amphitheater, in the delightful valley of the Cogâlnic-Bucium Rivers.
The name of the settlement is derived from the name of the Răzesi family (small landowners) from Lapusna - Hancesti. According to another version, Hancesti in Turkish means "an inn for soldiers", but this assumption has no basis.
The population of Hincesti is 18,850 inhabitants, most of them Moldovians. Of the national minorities, Russian, Ukrainian and Romanian predominate
